OpenAI details its Codex-built Git backend

Nov 2, 2026

OpenAI describes Pando, a Git-compatible backend built with Codex and deployed internally to support high volumes of parallel coding work.

OpenAI says an engineer designed the core, coding agents implemented it, and engineers deployed it. The backend began serving production traffic in April 2026. Aaron Friel, Taylor Blau and Ted Nyman published the technical write-up on November 2.
