SpaceX says Starlink sent and received its first text messages through Direct to Cell satellites using unmodified phones and T-Mobile spectrum on January 8, 2024.
Extends satellite connectivity toward ordinary mobile phones. This was a technical demonstration; it is distinct from later commercial availability and broader voice/data rollout.
